Last week I helped kick off tax filing season with Bill Hulterstrom and Marci Young at one of United Way’s free tax help sites.
United Way of Utah County provides free tax filing services for taxpayers who make less than $49,000 per year.
Last year its VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program prepared 3,902 tax returns which resulted $4.2 million in refunds.
According to some estimates, almost half of Provo would qualify for this free service.
To find a free tax help site near you, call 211. You can also watch a City Beat segment on the VITA program here, read a Daily Herald article about it here, and see more photos on United Way’s blog here.
When I spoke at the free tax help site, I noticed the younger audience was much harder to impress.
