PROVO — Two BYU law students who helped police catch a man who had stolen more than 40 textbooks were honored by Provo Mayor John Curtis during a criminal law class Thursday.
According to BYU police, David White and Trent Andrews’ report of the suspicious behavior of an individual led to an arrest and recovery of about half the law school textbooks, valued between $80 and $180 each.
Classmates applauded vigorously as Curtis presented White and Andrews with the first Safety Prosperity Unity Award, which Curtis said he intends to use throughout his administration to recognize those who contribute to the well-being of the city.
Provo city prosecutor Steve Schreiner told the students that an arrest warrant has been issued for the culprit, who had failed to make a court appearance.
