PROVO FIREFIGHTERS STOP MULTIPLE GRASS FIRES

Provo, UT–July 20, 2010–Around 2 p.m. today, Provo Fire and Rescue responded to a grass fire in the Slate Canyon area. Around the same time, another fire was reported in the Rock Canyon area, and crews responded to it as well. While working on these fires, three more fires were reported–two at the Y trailhead and a third by homes east of Seven Peaks Water Park. All of the fires, which occurred within a 50 minute window, have been extinguished.

Though the fires were small, the potential was great for becoming a larger problem. Other fire departments helped extinguish the fires, including the Orem, Utah County, and United Forest Service fire departments.

The public is encouraged to watch for a black SUV or pick up with the license plate number of Utah A996X6 or Utah A996XG. This vehicle has been seen in the area around these fires and around other fires in Utah County on the east benches. The public is also asked to report any suspicious activity to the local authorities.
