It’s been another successful year for Movies in the Park at Rock Canyon Park. Every Monday night in August, as soon as it gets dark (around 9 p.m.), our Parks and Recreation Department projects a movie onto a 25-foot inflatable screen. The public is invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs to watch from the hillside, which completely fills up by the time the movie starts. There were about 750 people at the first movie this year, and about 2,000 at the last two.
Our creative Parks and Recreation staff keeps coming up with new ways to entertain the crowd while they wait. This year they have been playing Wii Just Dance before the movie, giving free popcorn to the best dancers, and sometimes 300 people join in. Our recreation coordinator Whitney Booth says, “It’s such a neat thing to see.”
There are two more movies this year–Despicable Me (PG) on August 22 and Tron (PG) on August 29.
