Late yesterday afternoon I sent out an email message to members of the Provo Police Department announcing that Cliff Argyle will fill the role of Chief effective Thursday, July 11, 2013.
Argyle joined the Provo police department on April 18, 1988. He has served in many positions including senior patrol officer, field-training officer, and as a member of the department’s Mountain Rescue Team. Cliff was one of the first officers assigned to the Community Oriented Policing team and has held the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant and captain. As captain, Cliff has been assigned to Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Special Operations Divisions, and served as the department’s Public Information Officer.
Chief Argyle’s extensive experience, skills and knowledge give me confidence he will effectively lead our Provo Police Department as its interim chief through this important transition period. He’s surrounded by extremely capable Captains, Harper and Geyerman, as well as a department ready and willing to continue the positive momentum.
Our new Chief shares with me a real passion for community-based policing. He’s been a part of the team that’s made it a priority for Provo resulting in a safer, more crime preventive city. This will continue to be a big focus for me and our officers.
