Are you ready to break out your running shorts and freeze your buns off? Brave the cold and sign up for the annual Frigid 5k held next Saturday on January 18. The race starts at 9:00 am at the Utah Lake State Park in Provo and the course is along the beautiful Provo River Trail.
Afterwards be daring and do the Polar Bear Plunge. The Polar Plunge is the only Post Race Ice Bath opportunity in Utah. Anyone that jumps will receive a free picture of their plunge for future bragging rights and a Polar Bear Plunge Medal.
A chunk of ice is cut out of the Utah Lake and to make sure everyone is safe and a cage is lowered down through the cut ice. This cage prevents plungers from drifting under the ice. It is 8 feet deep which also prevents plungers from going too far down. The cage also has a ladder attached making it easy to get out of the water. EMT’s are on hand and gratefully have never been needed.
The Polar Plunge is free with your 5K race entry. If you would just like to do the Polar Plunge than it is $5 (includes free picture). The Polar Plunge will start after the 5K race around 10:00 a.m.
Post race access to the club room in the State Park Building allows everyone to warm up, drink hot chocolate, eat donuts, and enjoy each others company — as well watch watch the Polar Plunge from the comfort of a heated room.
