Hazordous Collection Day

On Saturday, April 11 residents of Utah County can dispose of old or unused household chemicals from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm at the Provo Towne Centre Mall west parking lot. Agencies across the county will come together to take your old or unused household chemicals and properly dispose of them so they don’t pollute our environment.

Take a look at the following lists to see what to bring and what not to bring.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Medications
  • Electronics (e-waste) — 2 sets per vehicle (NO commerical)
  • Gasoline/Fuels
  • Antifreeze
  • Solvents/Thinners
  • All-purpose cleaners
  • Aerosol cans
  • Pesticides/Herbicides
  • Glues/Adhesives
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Mercury thermometers
  • Photographic chemicals
  • Smoke detectors
  • Electronics
  • Paints/Stains*
  • Motor Oil/Lubricants*
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Paper Shredding

WHAT NOT TO BRING

  • Containers over 5 gallons in size
  • Ammunition
  • Explosives
  • Compressed gas tanks / propane tanks
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Asbestos materials
  • PCB-related materials
  • Medical or biological waste
  • Radioactive waste
  • Business or commercial waste
  • Construction or demolition materials
  • Tires*
  • Unknown or unlabeled substances

How to pack your wastes

Do not mix wastes. If possible, leave materials in original containers with labels intact, or mark containers if labels are missing. Be sure all containers are capped or sealed. Containers must be deposited with waste materials, they cannot be returned. Transport in a cardboard box lined with newspaper.

  1. I think more cities should have this type of waste cleanup. It would probably make the city look a lot cleaner. I know that a lot of people don’t want to worry about trash everywhere. The more waste is cleaned up the better. That also includes the hazardous waste that we often find in cities or by accident.

  2. I think it would be nice to be able to get rid of all of the hazardous waste that surrounds us. I think it would be incredible to be able to know what materials are creating this waste and how to minimize it as well. I think there are a couple materials that are obvious, but there are some that are not quite so obvious.
