Provo Police are investigating a death on the Frontrunner tracks at approximately 1100 W and 400 S. At 2:16 PM the Police Department received a call that the northbound train struck and killed a pedestrian on the tracks at that location. Provo PD detectives are on scene with investigators from UTA police and are investigating the circumstances of that death. Victim is a 36-year-old male. His name is being withheld pending family notification.
The track was closed for several hours as crews investigated, and a bus bridge was put in place. Later Thursday, the track reopened and the bus bridge was ended.
Provo PD and UTA police are investigating the scene to determine the circumstances around the fatality.
The northbound tracks were closed for a period of hours while investigators processed the scene. UTA is clearing the train back to the Provo station now and providing bus service to commuters.
I’ll give updates and details here as they become available.
Update: Police have identified the deceased as 36-year-old Kevin Poulsen. My heart goes out to his family and those closest to him.
