Power Now

Have you ever been in the middle of a power outage and you still flip the light switch? Or open the refrigerator and wonder why it’s dark?

Provo Power prides itself on being one of the most reliable power providers in the state and in the nation, but in the power industry, outages are very common and the causes are numerous. Be it a wind storm or heavy snow storm, a car accident, or an equipment failure – it happens, at some point, the power will go out. But let’s be honest, the majority of our customers don’t notice or have a thought about how the power is generated or how simple it is to access “power now”. That is, until the power goes out.

As a customer, would it ease the burden if you knew why the power went out and how long it will be out?

Provo Power is working hard to proactively communicate to our customers as much information about a power outage as possible. There are several ways to communicate, but not everyone uses the same methods, thus we face a dilemma in our communication efforts, but rest assured, if the power is out, we know it, and will do our very best to get it back on as safely and efficiently as possible.

Here are some best practices of what to do during a power outage:

  • Report the outage by calling 3-1-1 or (801) 852-6000. We still depend on customers calling to report power outages with any information pertaining to the outage including noises they heard or something they saw. (Keep in mind that if it is a very large power outage, the phone system can get overloaded and we use an automated system to take as many calls as possible.)
  • Outages that affect more than 50 customers at one time will be reported and updated on Facebook, Twitter and our website. If you have a smart phone you will be able to see updates and information regarding the outage. We are looking at a way to send text notifications to our customers but until that is implemented, referencing our pages is your best avenue for information.
  • Be patient. We can assure you that no matter the circumstance, our customers have our full attention and we will do our very best to get your power back on in the safest and most efficient way possible. Realize that although you may not have the convenience of power, we have our crews facing every element out there and that any mistake could cost someone’s life. Our customers are very important to us, but safety is our number one priority.
