The Provo City Redevelopment Agency (“RDA”) is a separate agency from Provo City, with the municipal council acting as the governing board, and the mayor as the chief executive officer. It is charged with revitalizing Provo’s central business district, administering Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) programs and other initiatives to help you make improvements to your home or business.
Here are some of those programs:
For your Home
Egress Window Program: Provo City code requires that all bedrooms have windows large enough for emergency escape and rescue. This means that below grade (ground) windows should have an openable area of at least 5.7 square feet. Basements and all sleeping rooms must have at least one opening, either a window or exterior door, for escape or rescue, also referred to as egress, in case of fire or other emergency.
Do you have non-conforming bedrooms in your home because the windows are too small? The Redevelopment Agency provides egress window loans/grants for low to moderate-income owner-occupants of single-family residential properties within the City. Find out more here.
Home Purchase Plus Program: This down payment assistance program began in 2000 to help individuals, couples and families buy their first house. In 2015, they helped more than 20 families purchase their first home. Available for low-income families/individuals you can learn more about the qualifications here.
For your Business
(New!) Downtown Redevelopment Improvement Program “DRIP”: Remember Provo Towne Square’s facade renovations last year? Well, this program has been expanded to include even more of our downtown!
Business owners in these areas can take advantage of up to $50,000 in grant money for eligible improvements. The new guidelines emphasize job creation in addition to revitalizing Provo. Contact the RDA for more info at 801-852-6160, or go to provo.org/departments/redevelopment/services.
